National Right to Life Endorses Judge Roy Moore in Alabama Senate Special Election

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – On Wednesday, National Right to Life endorsed Judge Roy Moore in the Alabama special election for U.S. Senate.

"Judge Roy Moore's position on life reflects the true values of Alabama's voters," said Karen Cross, National Right to Life political director. "There is a stark contrast between Judge Moore, who supports legal protection for unborn children, and Doug Jones, who supports abortion for any reason until birth. Alabama voters concerned with the protection of the most vulnerable members of the human family should vote to send Judge Roy Moore to the U.S. Senate."

In a letter to Judge Moore announcing the endorsement, National Right to Life cited his support of pro-life legislative efforts such as the Hyde Amendment and the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. National Right to Life also recognized Moore's longstanding commitment to pro-life principles and for speaking up on behalf of the unborn and their mothers.

Judge Moore said Thursday morning that he was honored to have National Right to Life’s endorsement.

“Every life is created by God and therefore every life is sacred and should be protected and welcomed,” Moore said. “I have proudly stood for pro-life principles throughout my entire career, and as a senator, I will work to protect the unborn and stand for the dignity of the most vulnerable in our society.”

In a press release on Wednesday, National Right to Life noted that in pro-life areas of the country like Alabama, Democratic candidates must have pro-life voters in order to win. However, they must also appease the pro-abortion masters of the Democratic Party. As witnessed earlier this year, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez announced that the DNC would only support candidates who support an extreme abortion agenda calling for unrestricted abortion for any reason – including late abortions after 20 weeks and taxpayer funding of abortion.

"This radical abortion litmus test comes from the Democratic Party that is backing Doug Jones in his campaign against pro-life Judge Roy Moore," added Cross. "But they cannot beat the infrastructure and grassroots base of National Right to Life, its state affiliates, including Alabama Right to Life, which can respond quickly anywhere in the country. For that reason, we are confident Alabama voters will elect Roy Moore on December 12."

Founded in 1968, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates and more than 3,000 local chapters, is the nation's oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization. Recognized as the flagship of the pro-life movement, NRLC works through legislation and education to protect innocent human life from abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide and euthanasia.
